About Us - content article
Philadelphia Express Track Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. In 1974 our organization was formerly called the Northwest Philadelphia Pioneers. Due to newer ideas and location we decided to break away and form our own year round program in 1978. The athletes were asked to pick a new name and team colors. They chose Philadelphia Express as the name and black and gold as their colors. Under the new name, the organization realized several of its intended goals.
The goal of the Philadelphia Express Track Club is to encourage our athletes to show good sportsmanship, proper respect for community property, individual, team and community pride, juvenile decency and sound moral character. Our team ranges from ages 4 to 18, male and female.
We are a year round program with three distinct seasons. Our Outdoor season last from April to August, our Cross Country season runs from September to November and our Indoor season covers the months of January through March. We practice in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia.
Also the Philadelphia Express Track Club is a charter member of the United Age Group Track Coaches Association, (UAGTCA). The UAGTCA was formed in the autumn of 1977 after a meeting of area track clubs representatives. The outgrowth of that meeting was the formation of a relatively small organization, with an ambitious agenda and a single goal, “To provide a quality track and field program for the youth of our area. “ Originally there were 7 charter teams from the Philadelphia area in the UAGTCA, but over the years other teams from the Tri-State area have joined the organization.
The Philadelphia Express Youth Developmental Association also sponsors a series of Cross Country meets in the Fall at Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pa. We have approximately 300-500 participants from the Tri State area on a weekly basis. Our organization looks forward to continue to serve the youths in the community and the surrounding areas.
